The Dance of the Kings: When the Village Is Dressed in Wheels and Colors

The awakening of spring in Borgo Segine brings with it an unmistakable sound and a spectacle that, every year, leaves us breathless. If, strolling along our avenues, you hear a sudden, proud call, look up: it's time for the wheel.

A journey spanning millennia

Although today the peacock is a symbol of Mediterranean elegance, its roots lie in ancient India. Considered sacred and protected, Alexander the Great was so fascinated by it that he brought it to Europe, where it quickly became a guest of honor in Roman villas and royal gardens.

Historically, the peacock was more than just an ornament: it was a symbol of immortality and rebirth. This is because every year it sheds its feathers only to see them grow back even more splendidly, just like the nature surrounding our farmhouse.

A palette of feathers

Not all peacocks are the same, and here at Borgo, we love variety. We are pleased to host three different shades of this marvel:

  • The Classic Blue (Pavo cristatus): Native to the Indian forests, its iridescent "eyes" represent the hundred eyes of Argus, placed by the goddess Hera on the tail of her favorite animal, according to Greek myth.

  • The Black (Spreading): A fascinating and magnetic mutation, with nocturnal hues that contrast with the green of our land.

  • The White: Often mistaken for albino, it is actually a genetic variant selected over time. An almost dreamlike vision. When the white peacock opens its tail, the effect is that of precious lace or a fan of pure snow. It is a rarity that enchants with its purity and was once reserved only for the homes of the most influential nobles.

The perfect moment

Seeing the "wheel" isn't just witnessing a courtship ritual, but connecting with an elegance that spans the centuries. It's an invitation to pause, put down your phone (after taking a photo, of course!), and enjoy the spectacle of time slowing down.

We look forward to seeing you all to find out which of our "kings" will win the prize for the most beautiful wheel this year.
